Abstract
High-energy acne treatments, in particular Intensive Pulse Light (IPL), are becoming increasingly popular in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. The purpose of the review is to analyze data on the use of IPL in acne therapy. A systematic search has been conducted for scientific publications over the past 20 years on various strategies for using IPL in acne therapy: as monotherapy, as well as in combination with medications, and their effect on the main pathogenetic mechanisms of acne. The role of IPL in the modulation of the skin microbiome and immune response has been noted. The data confirming the effectiveness of IPL both as monotherapy and in combination with systemic and topical medications are presented. The article presents our own clinical experience of using a combined method of treating papulo-pustular acne of mild to moderate severity in 28 women aged 18 to 45 years with a fixed combination of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) in combination with phototherapy with Intensive Pulse Light (400-1200 nm). The results showed a significant decrease in the total dermatological index of symptoms scale by 82.8% and an improvement in DLQI (Dermatology Life Quality Index) by 80.5%, which indicates high efficacy and good tolerability of the therapy. The conducted research and analytical work and our own clinical experience confirm the expediency of combining IPL with systemic and topical therapy in the treatment of acne and require further research in order to optimize acne therapy and develop standardized practical recommendations.
