EFFICACY OF LOW-TEMPERATURE ARGON PLASMA (LTAP) IN THE TREATMENT OF DERMATOLOGICAL DISEASES (Literature review)

Abstract

This review systematizes and critically analyzes current data on the use of low-temperature atmospheric plasma (LTAP) in dermatology with an emphasis on its multimodal mechanisms of action and clinical efficacy. Unlike previous studies focusing on individual effects of plasma, this review offers an integrative view of LTAP as a therapeutic platform with a unique combination of antimicrobial, regenerative, and immunomodulatory potentials. Particular attention is paid to the paradoxical selectivity of LTAP - the ability to stimulate the regeneration of normal tissues while simultaneously inducing apoptosis in pathologically altered cells. The article presents an analysis of clinical studies of the use of LTAP in various dermatoses (psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, pyoderma gangrenosum), confirming the therapeutic efficacy of the method without significant side effects. The author is the first to consider LTAP in the context of modulating the skin microbiome, proposing the concept of its use not only to eliminate pathogens, but also to restore the microbial balance. Fundamentally new is the analysis of the capabilities of LTAP in transdermal drug delivery due to the effect of temporary permeabilization of the cell membrane. The review also reveals existing limitations in the standardization of plasma exposure parameters and substantiates the need for large-scale randomized studies to develop personalized treatment protocols. The work lays the theoretical basis for further studies of LTAP as a promising alternative to traditional treatment methods in dermatology.
