Abstract

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a genetically predisposed disease of multifactorial nature, characterized by the miniaturization of terminal hairs and their transformation into pathologically thin vellus hairs, leading to further hair loss. Minoxidil and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors remain the mainstay of treatment for AGA. However, some patients may experience side effects from these therapies, and show inadequate response to minoxidil treatment. It is of paramount importance to search for new promising effective and safe treatment options of this conditions.

Exosomes are small membrane vesicles that are responsible for communication between cells. They can contain proteins, lipids, RNA, and growth factors that potentially contribute to prolonging the anagen phase, improving microcirculation, and regenerating hair follicles.

This article presents two patients with mild and moderate AGA who were treated with a solution containing exosomes derived from salmon tissues. During the therapy, a significant positive effect was observed in the form of increased hair density (due to anagen hairs) and a reduction in the percentage of vellus hairs, as assessed by phototrichogram analysis.
