Abstract
Background: Modern research considers acne as a disease accompanied by the development of epidermal barrier defects. Restoration of epidermal barrier parameters is a new direction in the context of acne treatment, therefore, the search for means that can successfully reduce acne manifestations and restore epidermal barrier disorders is an current task.
Aims: to determine the efficacy and safety of the “LA-KRY®” STOP ACNE with an innovative sebum-regulating complex in adolescents with mild acne.
Material and methods: a prospective single-center observational program was conducted at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University from May to December 2024. 30 patients with mild acne, whose legal representatives signed voluntary informed consent were included in programm. The participants used a complex of cosmetic products 2 times a day for 84 days. The program included 4 visits, each of which included an objective examination with counting of rash elements, assessment of moisture, sebum, pH, skin erythema using the Multi Skin Test Center 750 device (Germany), collection of data on adverse events, assessment of quality of life and satisfaction with the use of external agents.
Results: 30 patients with mild acne aged 11 to 17 years (average age 14.5 years, 13 boys, 17 girls) completed the program according to plan. Partial and complete regression of rashes was recorded in all program participants. The average number of comedones in the observation group decreased by 82.9%; papules/pustules - by 86.2%, inflammatory elements - by 91.2%. There was a 21% decrease in facial skin erythema, a 3.4% increase in hydration, a 37.7% decrease in sebum level, a 12.6% shift in acidity to the acidic side, and an improvement in quality of life according to the CDLQI questionnaire by 51.7%. No adverse events were observed in patients while using the studied external agents. 97% (29/30) of patients rated their experience of participating in the program as excellent.
Conclusion: A set of cosmetic products with sebum-regulating complex in the composition can be recommended as an additional therapy or an isolated care regimen that meets all the requirements for efficacy and safety for adolescents with mild acne. This therapy is aimed not only at combating the clinical manifestations of acne, but is also able to replenish the defects of the epidermal barrier and thereby prevent the appearance of rashes.
