Data on the use of low-temperature argon plasma in combination with phototherapy for non-segmental vitiligo are virtually nonexistent, although the complementary mechanisms of both methods justify their combination.</p> <p>AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combined use of low-temperature argon plasma and UVB-311 nm compared with UVB-311 nm monotherapy in patients with non-segmental vitiligo, based on changes in the VASI (Vitiligo Area Severity Index) and quality of life (Vitiligo-Specific Quality of Life, VitiQoL) over 8 weeks and 1 month after treatment completion.</p> <p>METHODS: A prospective, non-randomized, controlled, comparative trial included adult patients with non-segmental vitiligo with depigmented lesions assessed by VASI. A total of 60 patients were included in the study: 28 in the main group and 32 in the control group. In the main group, the median age was 34.5 years [Q1; Q3: 26.0; 44.0], in the control group 36.0 years [28.0; 46.5]; women accounted for 60.7% and 62.5%, respectively. The median duration of the disease in the main group was 4.5 years [2.0; 9.0], in the control group 5.0 years [2.5; 10.0]; a history of five years or more was observed in 42.9% and 50.0% of the participants, respectively. The groups were comparable for all baseline parameters; no statistically significant intergroup differences were found. Patients with segmental and mixed forms of the disease, pregnant women, individuals with photodermatoses, a history of systemic immunosuppressants, and skin cancer were excluded. The main group received low-temperature argon plasma therapy on depigmented lesions using the Plasmoran device, followed by a session of UVB-311 nm. The control group received UVB-311 nm monotherapy. Treatment was administered three times a week for 8 weeks. Evaluations were performed at baseline, after 4 and 8 weeks, and 1 month after completion of therapy.</p> <p>RESULTS: In the main group, the median VASI score decreased from 3.8 to 2.3 points by week 8 (a 39.5% decrease), and in the control group from 4.1 to 3.1 points (24.4%); the difference between groups was 0.5 points (95% CI 0.04–0.96; p = 0.03). After 1 month, the difference remained (2.1 versus 2.9 points, p = 0.04). According to VitiQoL, the median score at week 8 was 30.5 versus 35.0 points (p = 0.04), and after 1 month, 28.0 versus 33.5 points (p = 0.03). The advantage of the combination regimen was significant for non-acral locations and disease durations of less than 5 years. Adverse events were reported in 7 of 28 patients in the main group and 5 of 32 in the control group; all were transient and resolved spontaneously.</p> <p>CONCLUSION: The combination of low-temperature argon plasma with UVB-311 nm therapy provides a significantly greater reduction in VASI and improvement in quality of life compared to monotherapy. This is a pilot, non-randomized trial with a short follow-up, which limits the validity of the conclusions and requires a randomized controlled trial.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Обоснование. (Vitiligo-Specific Quality of Life, VitiQoL) Исследование носит пилотный характер, выполнено в нерандомизированном дизайне с коротким катамнезом, что ограничивает обоснованность выводов и требует проведения рандомизированного контролируемого исследования.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>vitiligo</kwd><kwd>non-segmental vitiligo</kwd><kwd>low-temperature plasma</kwd><kwd>cold atmospheric plasma</kwd><kwd>ultraviolet therapy</kwd><kwd>narrowband UVB therapy</kwd><kwd>VASI</kwd><kwd>quality of life</kwd><kwd>VitiQoL</kwd><kwd>combination therapy</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>витилиго</kwd><kwd>несегментарное витилиго</kwd><kwd>низкотемпературная плазма</kwd><kwd>холодная атмосферная плазма</kwd><kwd>ультрафиолетовая терапия</kwd><kwd>узкополосная УФБ-терапия</kwd><kwd>индекс VASI</kwd><kwd>качество жизни</kwd><kwd>VitiQoL</kwd><kwd>комбинированная терапия</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group/></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Batchaeva AH, Sampiev AM, Denisenko ON.
